Eating 50 grams more rice would be enough to prevent the risk of obesity
Increase rice consumption to reduce the risk of obesity. This is the surprising conclusion of an international study, published on April 30 on the EurekaAlert website. To reach this conclusion, the researchers studied the consumption of all rice products, (white rice, brown rice and rice flour) in 136 countries with more than one million inhabitants, using data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
According to the researchers, "Rates of obesity are considerably lower in countries that consume large amounts of rice (an average of 150 g / day / person), while countries with a lower average rice consumption (14 g / day / person) have higher levels of obesity. Scientists estimate that an increase of only 50 grams of daily rice consumption would reduce the prevalence of obesity by 1%.
Rice, yes, but preferably brown rice and nature!
It seems that "the fiber, nutrients and plant compounds found in whole grains increase the feeling of satiety and prevent overeating". In addition, "the rice is also low in fat and has a relatively low blood glucose post," note the authors of the study. But beware ! These results have to be put in perspective and moreover, the researchers specified that there was no cause-and-effect relationship asserted.
We know that starchy foods, of which rice is a part, are essential in our diet, but they must be eaten with vegetables, rich in fiber, and above all, not be drowned in ketchup or any other industrial sauce that is too rich. in sugar, but also in salt ... For a balanced diet, nutritionists recommend a plate composed for a quarter of protein, another quarter of starchy foods and half of vegetables. And we also know that overconsumption of white rice can lead to a risk of diabetes: prefer brown rice!
