5 beauty rituals to keep your skin healthy in winter!

With the temperature difference between outside and inside your home, your body needs a little more care than usual. The winter season can cause a lot of harm to your skin and the exposed parts of your body like your head, hands and feet.

Discover the 5 beauty rituals to follow in winter to keep your skin healthy!

1. Wash in Lukewarm Water
Hot showers and baths always feel good in the winter, but when you can, particularly when just washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping as many oils away from the skin.

2. Cleanse
In the winter months, it’s important not to strip your skin of its oils during this step, so look for creamy or oil-based cleansers (instead of gels) that won’t compromise your skin’s protective barrier.

3. Hydrate
Some over-the-counter moisturizers have petroleum-based ingredients that can actually further dry your skin in the winter months. Be sure to choose a smart formula that has natural, nourishing ingredients. Go for an oil-based rather than a water-based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter.

4. Protect
4-1 Use sunscreen
Sounds silly, doesn’t it? Who applies sunscreen before bundling up in a coat and mittens? You should! Though it may not be warming you up as it does in summer, don’t think the sun isn’t just as dangerous. In fact, the sun glaring off ice and snow might cause even more harm. Apply sunscreen half an hour before you go outside to give it a chance to dry and not stick to your clothes, and reapply frequently if you’ll be in the sun for long.

4.2 Use hand lotion
You use your hands for every task, all day, but it’s still so easy to forget that they need the most care. Often, you might not notice your hands need help until they’re chapped and cracked. Use a heavy moisturizing cream in the morning and evening, and apply lotion every time you wash your hands if you feel that soap and water dries them out too much. If you don’t want to get smears on your electronic screens or computer keyboards, make sure you find non-greasy lotion.

4.3  Prevent chapped lips.
You don’t realize how much you lick your lips until they start getting chapped! Use a moisturizing lip balm throughout the day to prevent this and keep your lips soft. Use it as part of your full body moisturizing routine, but also carry a tube with you to reapply as often as you need. If you’re going out in extreme cold, you can put a layer of Vaseline on top of your lip balm to keep the cold off of your lips even more.

5. Exfoliate
We often forget to help the skin slough off dead cells in the winter, particularly on our hands. Yet moisture can’t get in if the dead cells are too plentiful. Find an exfoliating mask and use it on your face and your hands, as well as gently on your lips, then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a smoother difference. Exfoliating body washes are also helpful in the winter months.
